So
this is my first official post and I am starting a new sequence of postings called "where ya going Fridays" cause you know, we all enjoy letting loose on Friday evenings and maybe there are some FREE (my favorite word) events going in city, that are fun for all! Since I am just starting, I'm posting what I found today from Dailycandy but as I continue, ill look for more African influenced events around the city. At UR-A-FIKI, every friday, you can find here all that there is to do every weekend in the BIG APPLE!
So according to
Daily Candy.com, You have a choice of
SEEING,
SHOPPING AND
MAKING
For SEEING:
There is a free showing of THE GODFATHER: PART II in LITTLE ITALY (ironic, oh yes)
It's on 350 Grand Street on the roof of the New Design High School. They don't provide any seating at the venue, so make sure to bring your blankets and lawn chairs. You can even RSVP on
facebook, to make it super official:
Facebook Link ! If you enjoy italian mafias, violence and classic movies this is where you should be tonight! The movie starts at 8PM!
For SHOPPING:
SAMPLE SALE? mhm! Who's having the sale? NYC'S OWN LINE SOPHOMORE! the line was started in 2003 with a single T-SHIRT and has picked up speed from then. There style is "Lower East Side of the 70s." I would definately wear some there t-shirts but of course, add my own personal AFRICAN style, you know. The designer Chrisse Miller has recently joined forces with Madeline Von Froomer (she worked for PROENZA SCHOULER!) to create a line for Women AND Men who enjoy the basic tee's and leggings. the sale is going on until SATURDAY and it located on 178 MULBERRY STREET between Broome and Delancey. Still Don't know what I'm talking about? Check em out!
For MAKING!!:
Do you enjoy sorbet/ice cream? (rhetorical question) Would you ever want to make your own?
Well, the perfect opportunity has come! Guerrilla Ice Cream is creating a D-I-Y class for ICE CREAM MAKING! they specialize in creating sorbet in all kinds of flavors such as Jasmine Tea (yum!). Only problem is the class costs $40 but you get to CREATE your own ice cream and get to bring some home to let other try, plus you use all organic produce provided at the workshop. The workshop is taking place on Sunday, August 29nd at 123 William Street between Fulton and John (on the 16th Floor). Need more info?
So there you have 3 CHOICES of either seeing a movie, shopping for some basics or making some ice cream this weekend...
